Services for Walter K. Wood were held at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church officiated by the pastor, Rev. Richard Wood.
Walter Wood came to Albany with his family in 1911 and attended local schools and Reynolds Academy. He entered Texas Christian University and joined the US Army while in school during World War I. He was in some of the heaviest fighting in France with the 3rd Division. He was in the army of occupation in Germany following the war. Returning to Albany, he became a rural mail carrier in 1920 and served as a carrier for 38 years before being appointed postmaster in 1958. He served as postmaster until his retirement in 1959. He was always interested in oil production and drilled many wells in Shackelford county. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, served Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church as a deacon, and was an elder in the church at the time o his death.
Survived by his wife; two sisters - Mrs. Jack Allen, Sr, and Mrs. H.V. Ranspot.
A son, John Walter Wood, a Dallas attorney preceded him in death in 1965 and a sister - Mrs. J. Webb Vandiver in 1955.
