Death of One of Raleigh's Oldest Citizens - Funeral Today

Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, widow of the late Albert Johnson died yesterday evening at 8:00 o'clock at her home 329 Hillsboro Street. She was in her 89th year, one of the oldest citizens of Raleigh.

The last illness of Mrs. Johnson lasted only a week. A slight scratch on the hand led, on account of her feeble condition to blood poison and produced her death.

Mrs. Johnson was before her marriage in Washington City nearly 70 (sic) years ago, Miss Brumley of Virginia. Her late husband ran the first locomotive into Raleigh over the old Raleigh & Gaston Railroad and he remained with the same road or its successor until a short while before he died.

Mrs. Johnson was a devout Christian. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Richardson, Mrs. Harriet Andrews and Mrs. Joanna Bellamy, all of Raleigh. She leaves too, numerous grand children and great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the First Baptist church at 5:00 o'clock this afternoon. The service will be conducted by Rev. W. C. Tyron and the internment will be in Oakwood cemetery.
