Stephen D. Carr, a beloved husband and an incredibly devoted father, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, from cancer. Steve was born in Torrance, Calif., on Aug. 13, 1947. A proud American and patriot, Steve served in the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Medical Badge while representing his country in Vietnam.
Steve married the love of his life, Mary Jo, in November 1969. After graduating from Stanford University as a physician assistant, he and his wife moved to Fairbanks in 1974 and have since called Alaska their home.
Steve served in the Fairbanks medical community for nearly 40 years and felt it was a great honor and privilege to help those in need. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur E Carr; his mother, Marcelline Carr; and his sister, Jill Beuning.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Carr; daughters, Molly Wood and Kelly Carr; his son-in-law, Jesse Wood; his two brothers, Terry and Clint Carr; and sister, Colleen Cook.
Services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at the First United Pentecostal Church at 907 23rd Ave. A potluck reception will follow at the Elks Club located at 1003 Pioneer Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial in Steve's honor be made to his daughter Kelly Carr's fundraising event, the American Cancer Society's - Runnin' Down a Dream, at http://main.acs events
