Age 81, he passed away one hour after his sister Mary Scott Connelly nee Abbot.

He left Scotland with his two sisters Mary and Jean and brother Robert Thomson Abbot and settled in Opotiki in 1875. He is survived by his wife Agnes and four sons and one daughter:
