Rhea Lucille Gividen Williams

1921 - 2017

Early Life: Rhea was born February 22, 1921, in her grandparents' home in Mapleton, Utah, the firstborn child of James Vance and Annie Lucille Beck Gividen. She has always been grateful for this wonderful little community where the faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was strong. She was the oldest of eight children. When Rhea was old enough to count change, she helped in her father's grocery store after school and on weekends. She graduated from Springville High School and seminary. She particularly enjoyed Home Economics and the Thespian Club; these were talents that she called upon throughout her life.

Life's Work | Service | Interests: The year after her graduation, Rhea fell in love with Arthur "Blaine" Williams and they were married December 6, 1939, in the Salt Lake Temple. They welcomed three sons: Blaine Terry, Dennis Brent and Ross Lynn. Life was busy and Rhea was a wonderful mother. She enjoyed gardening, canning, directing church plays and dances, planning family parties and the love of the busy life of the 1950s. In 1962, Blaine was transferred in his job with Geneva Steel to Lander, Wyoming, and returned to Mapleton in 1970. She was thrilled to be back with her parents, brothers, sisters and families. She also loved her flower gardens, vegetable gardens, exotic chickens along with department stores, which carried quilting supplies. She leaves a legacy of art and love in her marvelous quilts. She has always been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many ward and stake callings in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary presidencies in Utah and Wyoming. She helped the youth with preparing, writing and presenting their own talks. She taught gospel classes, was the music director, organized dance festivals; she sewed costumes, painted backdrops and directed roadshows. The family was always the center of Rhea's home. Currently, Rhea has 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Each and every one of them have always loved visiting with her. There was never a dull moment. The days were filled with taking care of her animals, gardens, gathering eggs or making up plays and acting them out after a costume had been picked from the "dress up clothes" box. Evenings consisted of popcorn or ice cream, game time, card games, pinochle, rummy, hearts, rook and she played to win. If you were old enough to know the number, you were old enough to get in on the game. This has carried through each generation of the family. Rhea Lucille Gividen Williams returned to her Heavenly Father May 5, 2017.

Family Message: "We all love family time thanks to our Sweet Rhea."

Survived By: A son, Dennis Brent (Goldia) Williams, Preston, ID; her siblings: Kathleen Grace, American Fork, UT; Georgene (John) Harris, Falcon, CO; Bert (Val) Gividen, Orem, UT; Mary Jo Barton, Payson, UT; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
