Jacob Hanson who has been confined to his bed for the past several weeks passed away at his farm home in Linden, at eight o'clock yesterday morning, November 15th, at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and six days.

Jacob Hanson was born at Lom, Norway, Januray 7, 1859*, and was the fourth child in a family of eleven children, living on a farm, and where he spent his childhood days. When 19 years of age or in 1878, he came to the United States, first locating in Winona County, Wisconsin, where he worked as a farm hand for 1 year, then went to Buffalo County where he also stayed one year and then came to Brown County. He then secured work in the stone quarries and working on the Railroad. In 1889 he went west to the coast spending 6 months in Idaho and 2 years in the state of Washington.

About 1891 he came back to Brown County where he had bought 80 acres of land in Linden before going west, without any improvements other than a dugout and later added 80 acres more, which he has built up to one of our fine farms in this community.

On January 1, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Olson, who is a native of Linden township, to which union nine children were born, of which one has preceded Mr. Hanson in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Hanson some time ago moved to Greenbush, where they had purchased a farm and lived a time, after which they returned again to their home in Linden. Mr. Hanson was a hard working man, good and kind husband and father. He for a time took a part on the school board of his district and also as Town Supervisor.

Besides his wife he leaves the following children to mourn his loss: Elmer; Clara, (Mrs. Gilbert R ?); Harry; Eldred; Arnold; Olaf; and Nina, all of this community; five brothers and sisters, Siver Hanson of Linden, Ole Blacksted and Mrs. Ellef Haugen of Odin; Hans Hanson and Mrs. Ole Larson of Washington state, besides one grandson and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 and 2 o'clock at the Nora Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. G.J. M. Walen will officiate. Interment will be made on the family lot at Mt. Pisquah cemetery.

The Herald joins the community in extending sympathy to the mourning family.
