In 1930 she married her beloved husband of 59 years, the late Warren James Ellis. They lived in Regina, where she raised her children, Beth Jean (Bettye), Walter and Howard. In 1948 the family moved to Vancouver Island, subsequently living in Parksville, Nanaimo, Victoria, Edmonton and Vancouver.
A woman of her generation, Lesley believed that home-making was her sacred calling, nursing her profession, and church and community service valid expressions of her Christian faith. A faithful wife and mother whose focus was her extended family, she returned to nursing during World War II, and whenever shortages required her services. She was a devout Christian of Baptist persuasion, taught Sunday School, led children's programs, and was active in Baptist Union Mission Circles throughout the West. Lesley took great pleasure in the accomplishments of her children and theirs. She cherished many happy memories of time spent with the family at the cottage on Keats Island and at Campbell River. Her enthusiasm for life, and infectious smile encouraged all who knew her.
Lesley is survived by her children, Beth Jean (Bettye) (Girbav), Victoria; Walter Edmund Ellis, Victoria, and Howard Frederick Ellis (Tracy) of Campbell River.
Predeaced by her granddaughter, Lesley Thomas, she leaves six grandchildren, James Girbav; Scott, Cameron, Barclay, Brandon and Kali Ellis; and five great grandchildren: Anthony and Taylor Thomas; Samantha, Sydney and Riley Ellis.
The family wish to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. M. H. Miles, and to the staff of Mt. Edwards Court Fellowship Baptist Home for their devoted and exemplary care and ministry over many years.
A family grave side service will be held at Royal Oak Cemetery, Victoria, followed by a memorial service and reception at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2121 Cedar Hill Cross Road, Victoria, V8P 2R6 at 2 p.m., the Rev. Dr. Ingrid White officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Ellis-Weston Scholarship Fund, Luther College, 1700 Royal Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan S4S 0A2, or to Emmanuel Baptist Church - designated "Janssen Mission Circle."
