The following obituary appeared in the Davenport Daily Democrat (the precursor to the Quad-City Times) on March 12, 1963:

Mrs. Calvin Smith, 84, of Princeton, a life-resident of Scott County, died Sunday in the DeWitt Community Hospital. She had been in ill health for the last nine weeks.

The former Mary Elizabeth Graham was born in LeClaire.

She was to Mr. Smith there in 1896*, after which the couple moved to Princeton.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Scull, DeWitt, and Mrs. Herman (Helen) Holst of Princeton; four sons, Ralph and Earl, both of Camanche, Delmar of Cedar Rapids, and Howard of Minneapolis; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a brother, Albert Graham, of Mitchell, S.D.

Her husband, seven brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the McGinnis Chapel, DeWitt. The Rev Lester Olson, pastor of the DeWitt Congregational Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Princeton.
