John A. Meskauskas, age 89, of South Haven, formerly of Chicago died Saturday, December 20, at South Haven Community Hospital.

He was born May 27, 1914 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Mary and Francis Meskauskas. John married Emily Vasilis on June 22, 1935 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Chicago. John worked in the foundry for 45 years. Thirty five years for Chicago Malleable Castings Company/Clark Equipment and ten years for Anderson Schumacher. John retired in 1980.

John was very handy. He enjoyed woodworking as he crafted furniture. He also worked with plastics as he crafted lamps and jewelry. In his earlier years he loved to fish and bowl. John was an active member of the Holy Name Society at Saints Peter and Paul and the Father's Club at Maria High School. John was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Emily Ann Meskauskas, who died July 3, 2003. Also by two brothers, Frank and Charles Meskauskas. Two sisters, Sophie Czyzewski and Dorothy Zematis. Surviving are two daughters, Ann Meskauskas and Judi Goblet, both of South Haven. One son, David (Margaret) Meskauskas of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Bruno Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery. The family is being helped by the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven.
