Composer. The son of the musician Clemens Schumann and older brother of the composer Camillo Schumann was born in the small saxon village Königstein. He studied in Leipzig and later worked as conductor and choir leader in Danzig and Bremen. In 1934 he became president of the prussian 'Academy of arts' and was awarded the "Bundesverdienstkreuz" (Federal Cross of Merit) in 1951.
