Leroy Amkaer, Jr.71, son of the late Leroy and Rosa Amaker, Sr. was born in Sumter, SC on February 7, 1941. On Monday, January 28, 2013, he entered into eternal rest at St. George Health Care Center in St. George, SC.

He grew up in the Harleyville area and attended the public schools of Dorchester County. He was married to Herlene Amaker for 18 years. He was a lifelong member of the House of God Harleyville where he was a member of the Senior Choir. He was employed by Limehouse Construction and Bellamy Construction, LLC.

Two brothers preceded Leroy in death, Marcellous Amaker and Alfonza Amaker.

Those who will always cherish wonderful memories include: his devoted wife, Herlene Amaker; two sons, Moses (Rainey) White, Jr. of St. George, SC and Lason White of Summerville, SC; three daughters, Tyhessia White of Columbia, SC, Kesha White and Sissilli (Greg) Evans both of Orangeburg, SC; two adopted daughters, Dashia Tucker and Vernashia Edwards; four brothers, James L. (Bertha Lee) Amaker, Charles Adams and Michael Adams all of Harleyville, SC and Samuel Adams of Columbia, SC; five sisters, Joyce Mack of Summerville, SC, Rev. Dorothy Bowman, Mary (Marshall Lee) Amaker, Neally (Jacob) Newton all of Harleyville, SC and Alemeanter (Randy) Gavins of Holly Hill, SC; adopted sister, Alma Addison of Harleyville, SC; mother-in-law, Jessie Mae Gaddist; seven sisters-in-law, Eartha Tucker, Virginia Boyd, Mary (Clarence) Norris, Tina (David) Stanley, and Patricia (Leonard) Chaplin all of Ridgeville, SC and Mildred Amaker and Betty Amaker; three brothers-in-law, Fred (Pat) Green of Ridgeville, SC, Marion (Betty) Green of Summerville, SC, and Solomon (Belinda) Green of Charleston, SC; three aunts, Dorothy Chris of Richmond, VA , Mary Goodwin of Holly Hill, SC and Jessie Lee Maxwell Miami, FL; six grandchildren; special friend, Marilyn McGhee; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
