David D. Carruth of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday morning, April 5, 2017, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 89 years.

David D. Carruth was born on January 14, 1928, in Skedee, Oklahoma, to Jack Clarence and Della (Drake) Carruth. He grew up in the bend near Ralston, Oklahoma, before moving with his family to Braman in 1940. The family returned to the bend and during high school education he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company. In 1949, he moved to Blackwell and on November 5, 1954, he married Pearl E. Sayre in Blackwell and he continued to work at the smelter until the plant closed in 1974. Following the closure he returned to school and obtained his high school diploma. He then began working as a diesel mechanic in Wichita, Kansas, and later in the construction business in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, both jobs working with his brothers. After returning to Blackwell he began working for the C.F.M. Corporation before his retirement. His wife preceded him in death on November 15, 2002, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Carruth of Blackwell; two brothers, Everett Carruth of Bartlesville and Elton Carruth of Valley Center, Kansas; two sisters, Zola Kessler of Liberal, Kansas, and Glenda Sue Starnes of Raton, New Mexico; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lennis Kelle; three brothers, Lonnie, Glen and a brother at birth; and four sisters, Leona, Louise and two sisters at birth.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22nd in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tom Howard of Hospice of North Central Oklahoma officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary casketbearers will be the grandchildren and great grandchildren of David Carruth.

A memorial has been established in his honor with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
