The funeral of Elias Roberds was held at the Christian church in Burlington Wednesday afternoon in charge of Rev. W. S. Lowe of the Christian church and the body was laid to rest in Graceland cemetery. Many friends paid their tribute of respect.
Elias Roberds was born in Minnesota October 10, 1834, and died at the National Military home at Lawrence, Kansas, April 1, 1918. When a young man he moved to Ohio where on October 9, 1864 he married to Emma Jane Speers. To this union were born six children, all of whom survive. They are Euella B. Stokes, Kansas City, Kans.; J. William Roberds, Staten Island, N. Y.; Libbie Roberds, Kansas City, Mo.; Clinton Roberds, Independence, Kans.; Benjamin M. Roberds, Chanute, Kans. and Earl Roberds of Tulsa, Okla. In 1871 he moved with his family to Coffey county where he has since resided till his companion died January 1, 1916, after which he made his home with his son Earl till on account of sickness, he decided to try the soldiers home, hoping to regain his health. He served his country as a member of the 11th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded in battle which left him cripple. In early manhood he united with the Christian church and later was ordained as a minister. He was a kind father, a good neighbor, and ever ready to help his fellow men when in distress
