Victor L. Border, 84, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

A visitation and Celebra­tion of Life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thurs­day, April 20, 2017 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Friday 10:30 a.m. at the Paton Township Cemetery with military honors presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Dana, IA; children, Mark Border and his wife Sheila of Fort Dodge; Anne Machovec and her husband Keith of Fort Dodge; stepchildren, Brian, Steve and Brad Langfitt; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Border of Poway, CA; sister, Fern Marie Bunting of Mason City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Bernice (LaPlount) Border; infant daughter, Mary Beth Border; daughter, Vicki Lane; sister, Faye Sollie; and his brother, Herbert E. Border Jr.

Victor L. Border was born on September 18, 1932 in Adaza, IA. He was raised and educated in Calhoun County. From 1951 to 1954 Victor served in the Korean War with the U. S. Army. After the service, Victor returned to Fort Dodge where he established his home. In 1957, he married Mary Pat Brehm and to this union, their children Vicki, Mark, Ann and Mary Beth were born. The couple later divorced. In 1958, he began working for Land O’Lakes in Fort Dodge. He was employed there for 35 years, until retiring in 1993. On July 19, 1986, he was united in marriage to Shirley Hildebaught at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple established their home in Dana, IA. Victor served on the City Council of Dana for a number of years.
