James F. Prendergast, 80, of Scranton, died Saturday at home under the care of Compassionate Care Hospice. His wife is the former Catherine E. Anderson. They were married Feb. 21, 1970.

Born Feb. 22, 1937, in Scranton, son of the late Thomas and Anna (Healey) Prendergast, he was educated in Scranton schools and was an Army veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Before his retirement, he was employed by J. F. Sportswear. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Parish in Scranton.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Erin Keiper and partner, Dean Martin, Taylor; and Nancy Prendergast and fiancé, James Owens, Scranton; four grandchildren, Justin Keiper, Taylor Keiper, Dean "Dino" Martin Jr. and Cailyn Owens; and two stepgranddaughters, Hailey Owens and Elizabeth Martin; seven sisters, Rose Zielinski, Joan Lescinsky and husband, William; Mary Flis and husband, John; Ann Sherman and husband, David; Romayne, Paula and Cynthia Prendergast; six brothers, Thomas, Stephen, Francis, John, Edward and wife, Ann; and Robert and wife, Pam Prendergast; several nieces and nephews.

James was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Rupinski and Sharon Prendergast; and three brothers, Patrick, Michael and Gerald Prendergast.

A Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton. Military honors will follow the Mass. Interment services will be conducted privately in Cathedral Cemetery.
