Francis "Frank" Patrick Prendergast, age 73, a Scranton native, passed away peacefully on Monday at home in Kernersville, N.C., after an illness. He was preceded in death on April 20, 2013, by his wife of 33 years, Marilyn (Crock) Prendergast.
Born in Scranton on May 7, 1949, and son of the late Thomas and Anna (Healey) Prendergast, Frank was educated in Scranton Schools.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War prior to his honorable discharge on June 17, 1974. Prior to his retirement he worked as a painter for the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was also a current member of the V.F.W. Post #5352 in Kernersville.
Frank enjoyed golfing, but most of all he enjoyed being with his beloved granddaughter, Isabella. Now at peace, he'll be dearly missed.
He is survived by his adoring daughter, Michelle Cutting and husband Michael of Kernersville, N.C.; his granddaughter, Isabella of Kernersville; his siblings, Robert Prendergast and wife Pam of TX, Stephen Prendergast of Scranton, Edward Prendergast and wife Ann of Dunmore, John Prendergast of Moscow, Rose Zielinski, Ann Sherman and husband David, Romayne Prendergast and Cynthia Prendergast, all of Scranton, Joan Lescinsky and husband William of Moscow, Mary Flis and husband John of Dunmore and Paula Prendergast of Dunmore; and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was also preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas, Patrick, Michael, Gerald, James and Sharon Prendergast and Jean Ann Rupinski.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday to begin at 9:15 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson Street, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst.
