Ann was the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Richardson) Gilson.
Ann married John Dyson, a Warp Dresser in textile mills in West Yorkshire, about 1861 as their first child was born around 1862. Children included Charles, born 1862; Lavington, born 1864; and Sarah Ann, born July 5, 1868.
Ann emigrated to the U.S. in 1883 aboard the S.S. Cephalonia. She made another transatlantic crossing returning to the U.S. in 1886 with her son Lavington and grandson Harry.
Ann worked as a weaver in textile mills in the Lawrence, MA area, but also resided in Providence, RI where her daughter Sarah had settled.
Ann died of Nephritis at Lawrence Hospital and was interred at Elmwood Cemetery in Metheun.
