Nancy Marie Funkhouser Shipp, 73, of Woodstock, Virginia passed away on April 14, 2017 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Nancy was born on October 25, 1943 to Marvin and Lona Helsley Funkhouser of Edinburg.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her son, Andy Shipp and wife, Jill; two step granddaughters, Ashley Rush and Emily Frye and her husband David; three grandchildren, Haley, Khloe and Jakobe; two brothers, Kenny and Denny Funkhouser; and two nephews, Jeff Racey and Duane Stover.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda Racey and Doris Stover.

Nancy was married to Bill Shipp in 1962, moved to Northern Virginia and worked at the General Adjustment Bureau in Washington, D.C.

After moving back to Shenandoah County, she worked for Safeway Stores in Woodstock for many years and finished her working life at Strasburg High School in the Guidance office.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for many years and a member of the Ladies Aid Association. She attended New Hope Church in Woodstock and was a member of the VFW in Edinburg, VA.

Nancy sang for over 12 years in a gospel group called Gospel Happenings, and enjoyed music her entire life.

She will be most remembered for her smile that would always light up a room and she never met a stranger. Her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was undeniable. She genuinely loved all her friends and her family. The love and admiration of the students at Strasburg High School meant the world to her.

After the death of her mother and two sisters, she devoted her life to taking care of her down syndrome brother, Denny. Their love for one another was a true testament of brotherly and sisterly love. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

The family will accept friends Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heishman, Valley Funeral Home, Bowmans Crossing.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Pastors Bob Hutchison and David Poyser. Burial will follow in Sunset View Cemetery in Woodstock.

Serving as pallbearers are Mike Wymer, Neil Riffee, Jeff Racey, Dwayne Stover, Mitche Adkins and Jeff Capo.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Special Olympics in honor of her loving brother Denny Funkhouser.

Arrangements are in the care of Heishman Funeral Home, Inc., Valley Funeral Service Branch, Bowmans Crossing, 14116 S. Middle Rd., Edinburg, VA.
