Eleanor J. Bell, 91 of Elgin, IL passed away early Sunday, January 15. She was born March 10, 1925 in Aurora, IL to Edward and Mary (O'Malley) McCabe. Eleanor graduated from Maple Park High School and continued her education receiving a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois. On December 30, 1950 Eleanor married the love of her life, Robert W. Bell, in Maple Park, IL. After graduation from U of I, Eleanor went on to teach in Ohio, IL, Wauconda, the Kaneland school district and St. Laurence School. In 1990 she was recognized by the Rockford Diocese for her dedication and 27 years of service to St. Laurence students. After retiring she continued her love of education and inspiring children by substitute teaching in the U46 school district and area private schools. She was also a long time member of St. Laurence parish, the Lady Elks and a volunteer at Provena St. Joseph Hospital and Shop and Share. Eleanor had a great love of life and people. She valued time spent with family and treasured memories from many trips taken with them. She enjoyed sewing and catching up with the many friends she had. She also enjoyed baking with her grandchildren, passing on her famous cherry pie and cinnamon roll recipes. Surviving are: her children Sharon (Ed) Slezak of Mundelein, David (Terri) Bell of Aurora and Patricia (Steve) Janik of Wheaton; grandchildren, Melissa (Patrick) Van Camp, Kerri Slezak and Mary, Jeff and Christina Bell; great grandchild Kayla Van Camp; sisters Katy Hiatt and Ginny Krull, a niece and several nephews along with special caregiver Carmen Anderson. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, Mary and Edward, brother, Thomas, and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
