JAMES ROY BURCHFIELD
10 SEP 1939 - 13 APR 2017

James Roy Burchfield was 77 years old. On Thursday, April 13, 2017 Jim went to take the place his Savior has prepared for him. Jim was a kind, thoughtful and loving man who was well respected by all who knew him. He was a charter member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church and an elder emeritus at New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Jim retired as a system analyst from Eastman Chemical Company and from GSE. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His daughter Robin was a “daddy’s girl” and his beloved granddaughter, Ashley, and his wife Ellen, his devoted caregivers. You could see Jim at Sullivan North Middle & High School basketball games cheering for his girls, Kailey and Lilly. Nothing brought him more joy! As a devoted follower of Christ, Jim would want each of you to accept the gift of salvation our Savior graciously died for.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Georgia (Britton) Burchfield.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ellen (Overbey) Burchfield; daughter, Robin Painter; granddaughter, Ashley Painter; great-granddaughters, Kailey Crawford, Lilly Crawford, Abby Crawford and Elly Mae Crawford; brother, Sam Burchfield; sister-in-law, Irene (Kyle) Carroll; brother-in-law, Bud (Linda) Overbey; nieces, Donna (Bob) Brock, Kim (Jeff) Warren, Christina (John) McSwain, Brittany Burchfield, Angel Owens and Brandi Weddle; nephew, Ben Craft; daughter-in-love, Tracy Vanzant; granddaughters-in-love, Maddy Winters and Kayden McClellan; special family, Dot (Kermit) Stallard, Sherry (Johnny) Howington and Crystal (Gary) Smith; Pastor and friend, Pastor Richard Willis; his church family; and several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 am at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Please meet at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, at 9:45am.
