Mr. Polk was born July 4, 1935 in Georgetown section of Shenandoah County, son of the late Luther Franklin and Margie Maylena Ryman Polk.
He was a graduate of Triplett High School Class of 1954 in Mount Jackson. In 1959 he graduated from Newport News Shipyard Building and Dry Dock Company Apprentice School as a machinist. He was employed there until his retirement in 1994.
He was married August 15, 1964 to Clara Hampton Johnson who survives. They resided in Newport News until their relocation to Mount Jackson April 8, 2006.
He is survived by the following siblings, Gene T. Polk, Donna Polk Sortzi and husband Cornell, Diana Polk Lonas and husband Hope all of Mount Jackson, Betty Polk Herald and husband Paul of Woodstock, Donnie D. Polk and wife Tracy of San Antonio, TX., Alfred L. Polk and a special friend Dolly Polk Bowers both of Verona. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Lester M. Polk, Alvin L. Polk, Goldie Polk Carr, and Franklin R. Polk.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Community Mission Church of the Brethren west of Woodstock with the Rev. Howard Lutz officiating.
