He married Sophrona WOLF(1847IA-1934IA d/o Joseph & Loraine), at Elkport, IA. At the age of thirty in 1874(perhaps with aid & urging of wife who taught him to read, write, & study the bible) read the Bible from cover to cover & then set out with team & wagon from the Garber area to Waterloo, IA to join the Church of the Brethren which he felt was in accordance with his beliefs.
As a minister with the Church of the Brethren(Dunkards) he preached the gospel & ministered to many of the families in the area.
Strother was also a breeder of fine but spirited Percheron draft horses.
His home had nails driven in the floor of his house so that he could tell the time from their shadow when he opened the door to the sun.
He died in Mallory Twp. of Clayton Co., IA & is buried in the HANSEL Cemetery at Garber, IA.
