Jimmy Calvin Baxter was born on September 26, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona to Clarence E. Baxter and Susie J. Doughty. He grew up and attended school in the Ardmore, Ravia, and Russet areas before moving to Colbert, where he graduated high school.
He married Barbara Sue Head on May 25, 1962 in Bryan County. They raised their family in Colbert area before moving to Tishomingo in 1974.
Jim owned and operated a plumbing and heating and air business in Johnston County for 31 years until his retirement in 2005.
Jim had a passion for music and loved playing guitars, playing in bands, and recording music. He also would build and refinish guitars, and also liked to make wine. Jim also enjoyed spending time hunting for arrow heads and making arrows with the heads he had found.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; his daughters, Debbie Akins of Ravia, and Karen Baxter of Tishomingo; brothers, Ray Baxter of Cartwright, OK, Johnny Baxter of Warsaw, MO, Joe Baxter of Calera, OK; sisters, Virginia Bowers and Barbara Proctor, both of Cartwright; grandchildren, Matt and Tyler Akins of Ravia, Seanna Hutchins of Tishomingo and Dusty Hamilton of Lane, OK; great-grandchildren, Bryler And Dax Akins of Ravia, Jack Hutchins of Tishomingo, and Jonathan Hamilton of Ardmore. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeff Baxter; and a brother, Clarence H. Baxter.
