Nita Jo Brown, age 89, of Honey Grove, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the funeral home.

Nita was born on February 25, 1928 in Elijah, Texas to W.C. Manning and Lela Mae Donaldson Manning. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1945. After graduating, she moved to Odessa, Texas and went to work for Southwestern Bell, later transferring to Temple in the mid 50's. After working 18 years for Southwest peen Bell, she went to work for Waco Credit Association in Gatesville for 22 years where she met her husband of 34 years, Kenneth E. Brown.

After retiring, from Waco Credit Association, she worked alongside her husband in their business. Nita and Kenneth enjoyed the time they spent together taking trips to Ruidoso for the horse races and to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo. Nita was a huge sports fan a few of her favorites included The Rangers, The Cowboys, and The Mavericks. She loved telling jokes and putting a smile on everyone's face.

She was a member of Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. The last two years of her life she resided in Honey Grove, Texas with her son, Ted Caufield, and daughter-in-law, Faye Caufield. She attended the United Methodist Church in Pecan Gap, Texas. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Brown; parents, W.C. Manning and Lela Mae Donaldson Manning; three brothers, Billy Manning, Jim Manning, and Fred Manning; and one sister, Mary Smith.

She is survived by her son, Ted Caufield and wife, Faye of Honey Grove, Texas; one brother, Jack Manning of Gatesville, Texas; stepson, Kenneth (Kenny) E. Brown II and wife, Mary of Allen, Texas; stepdaughter, Cindy Miles of Gatesville, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother-in-law, Clyde Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
