Memorial service for Virginia Mae McMurry Pearson, 92, of Tyler, will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating.

Private burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pearson died peacefully, Monday, April 3, 2017, at home under the care of hospice with her family and caregiver by her side.

She was born September 27, 1924, in Dublin, Texas to Guy H. and Mary Elizabeth Pillow McMurry.

Virginia lived in Tyler since 1954. She was a member of Marvin Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, she also served as chair Administrative Council (first woman to do so). She was a longtime member of P.E.O., a member of Quairo Literary Club, a founding board member of Meadow Lake senior living, a member of Tyler Parks Board and president of Texas Federation of Republican Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Pearson; her parents; sisters, Louise Waltrip, Marguerite Ray, and Ann Knapton; brother, Guy H. McMurry Jr.; and niece, Dr. Nancy Ray White; nephews, James Waltrip and Guy McMurry III.

Virginia is survived by her loving family including her children, George L. Pearson and his wife Becky of Dallas, Pamela K. Pearson and husband Tom Hogan of Los Gatos, CA; grandchildren, Lauren Browning and husband Eric of Edmond, OK, Eric Pearson and wife Natalie of Dallas, Rachel Hogan of Savannah, GA and Maya Hogan of Los Gatos, CA.; great-grandchildren, Canon, Dawson and Emery Browning of Edmond, OK; new great-granddaughter, expected in July 2017 of Dallas; nieces and nephews, Al Ray and wife Nan, Bill Knapton of North Richland Hills, Kathy Castles and husband Jack, David Knapton and wife Dr. Susan Knapton MD of Irving, Mary Frances Llewelyn of Austin, Steve McMurry and wife Piper of Phoenix, AZ, Judy Cooper of Phoenix, AZ, Gary McMurry of Phoenix, AZ and Arlton White of Dallas; plus many great-grand nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bing Ball, R.N., Daisy Barger, Shawanda Black, Susan Henderson, Charles Jackson, Leatrice Johnson, Randy and Cindy Kidwell, Bill Lust, Ruth McGee, Natalie McKenzie, Damaris Moore, Jennifer Rollins and Dr. Bill and Mary Gean Smyth.

Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
