On Dec 11, 1854 Martin was born to Konrad & Rosine Taubenberger (Leyer) in Malschenberg, Germany. Martin emigrated from Germany to New York City in 1881 five years before the Statue of Liberty was dedicated in NY Harbor. On Nov 10th, 1883 he married Maria Luft Wunschmann in Manhattan (Cert. #28639).


On Oct 9th, 1886 Martin became a Naturalized US Citizen and lived at 340 E. Houston Street in Manhattan.


By 1892 he had moved over to Brooklyn and continued his work as a Cigar Maker eventually residing at 951 Grand Street in Williamsburg.


According to his granddaughter Adeline, she had recalled hearing that Martin had some sort of asthma condition and died at home in his bed. He was interred at Lutheran Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens on Aug 11th, 1912.
