Son of Charles Gardner and Sarah Young, husband of Sarah Jeannette Totten, whom he married on October 5, 1881 in Brooklyn, NY.

Obituary - Centre Moriches- Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal Church for John F. Gardner, who died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fred Moore, of Bay Shore. Mr. Gardner was 67 years of age and is survived by four brothers, I.W. Gardner, of this place; Ormiston C. Gardner, of Riverhead; and Horatio Gardner, of New York; also two sisters, Mrs. Fred Moore, of Bay Shore; and Mrs. Herbert Schrader, of Southampton. Warratta Lodge, I.O.O.F., of which Mr. Gardner was a member, attended the services in a body, and South Side Lodge, F. & A. M., of which Mr. Gardner was also a member, was represented. Interment was made in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
