Mirtlee Johnson, age 92, of Kendallville, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Sacred Heart in Avilla.

Mrs. Johnson was born on January 8, 1925 in Mousie, Kentucky to the late Troy and Biddie (Wicker) Chaffins.

On September 30, 1947 she married her first husband, Vernon Sparkman in Paintsville, Kentucky. Vernon preceded her in death on February 11, 1991. On January 25, 1992 she married her second husband, James Johnson in Steuben County. James preceded her in death on July 19, 1998.

Mirtlee was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She loved flowers and gardening. Mirtlee enjoyed listening to religious music and singing along with all of the songs.

Survivors include: Son, Marvin and Priscilla Sparkman of Hueysville, Kentucky; Daughter, Minnie Faye and Jack Dean of Kendallville; Son, Jimmy and Sharon Sparkman of Kendallville; Daughter, Christeen and Noel Johnson of Garrett; Son, Leo Sparkman and Tina Wright of Rome City; 15 Grandchildren; 41 Great-grandchildren; 9 Great-great-grandchildren; Brother, Ballard Chaffins of St. Mary's, Ohio; Sister, Sally Fairchild of Mary's, Ohio; Sister, Cora and Simeon Fields of Camie, Kentucky; Sister, Dora Lewis of Tennessee.

Mirtless was preceded in death by her husbands; Vernon Sparkman and James Johnson, her parents; daughter; Geraldine Sparkman, brothers: Leo, Coy, Richard, Merrit, James, and Kelly Chaffins, sister; Lora Collins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street, Kendallville, Indiana 46755.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 3:00pm at Hite Funeral Home.

Burial will take place in Corunna Cemetery.

Officiating the funeral services will be Pastor Tom Wilcoxson.

Memorial donations may be directed to Cancer Society of America, Diabetes Foundation, or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
