Victoria Bowman Stone was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on April 18, 1951.
The youngest of four, Vicki was a champion swimmer, voracious reader and lover of history. She graduated from Cedar Cliff High School in 1968 and her beloved Duke University a month following her 21st birthday in 1972. Vicki then moved to Washington, D.C., and began her career working for Delta Airlines. In 1974, she married Larry Stone, a marriage that produced three children and would last 27 years. The young Stone family settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Vicki spent most of her adult life.
Vicki was a natural leader and volunteered with many community organizations where she lived, including the Tulsa Junior League, Tulsa (and Oklahoma) Perinatal Coalition, Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, the Jazz Foundation of North Carolina, St. Luke's United Methodist Church and the Regional Food Bank of Central Oklahoma, to name a few. She chaired the initial fundraising effort to build the Ronald McDonald House of Tulsa. In addition, Vicki often worked full-time in an executive role for the Tulsa FastBreakers professional basketball team as well as in development at the University of Tulsa. In 1998, Vicki took a job in development at Duke University, where she worked in various positions until she retired as Assistant Director of Athletic Development, Director of Major Gifts. Vicki's love for Blue Devils basketball was lifelong.
Vicki is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Tom and Virginia Bowman of Harrisburg, and a grandson, Isaiah.
