Obituary.
Jane Brawner was born Nov. 11, 1814; married to Henry Brawner in Louisville, Ky., in September [4th] 1838; came to Shelby county, Mo., in 1849, and was left a widow by the death of her husband Jan. 28, 1858. He died on the old homestead 4 miles northwest of Shelbyville. Five children were left for her to care for. She lived to see them all married. Three daughters and two sons composed this family, namely:—James R., Frank, Aggie Pollard, Priscilla Taylor and Mattie Emler. None of the children who live abroad were able to see her during her last sickness on account of sickness in their families. She made her home with her daughter Mrs. Aggie Pollard for a number of years and at whose home she departed this life March 15, 1902, art 4:30 a.m., aged 87 years, 4 months and 4 days. It was my privilege to know her personally for nearly 37 years. I knew her to be a christian during all these years and died as she had lived, trusting in Him who had been her shield and stay. Often when I visited this home I was asked to read from that book where she had received great comfort and consolation, and then to kneel in prayer with her. May His choicest blessings rest on the home make vacant and the absent children is our prayer.
