Elinor J. Balling, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at the age of 82.

She was born March 6, 1924, the daughter of Charles Harold Johnston and Leona McMaster Johnston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Balling, on April 5, 1993, her parents, her sister Dorothy Wendlant and her brother, J. Harry Johnston II.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara B. Carl, J.D. and her husband, The Rev. Bernard W. Carl, of Uniontown, Pa.; her son, Robert C. Balling, Jr., Ph.D. and his wife, Darlene Periconi, of Tempe, Arizona; a grandson, B. William Carl, Jr. of Lincoln, Nebraska; her sister, Marian Rittenhouse and her husband, J. William Rittenhouse, Sr., of Uniontown, Pa.; her sister-in-law, Nancy Lee Johnston, of Uniontown, Pa.; brother-in-law, Wayne Balling and his wife, Marie Balling, of San Jose, CA and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Elinor was a lifelong member of Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Chancel Choir. She also attended Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, where her son-in-law is the pastor.

"Ebbie" was a graduate of Uniontown High School Class of 1941 and Uniontown Business School in 1943 and was associated in earlier years with the Fayette Broadcasting Corporation, WMBS Radio. She served as a volunteer for the Uniontown Public Library, the Community Action Food Bank, the Fayette County Children's Aid Society, the Adult Learning Center Literacy Council and was a member of several other organizations throughout her life. Her favorite pastime was playing bridge in several bridge clubs with friends that she enjoyed so much.

Visitation will be held in the J. HARRY JOHNSTON FUNERAL HOME, 65 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., Friday, April 14, 2006, from 2 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 71 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., Saturday, April 15, at 2 p.m. with her pastor, The Rev. Paul N. Frank, Jr. and her son-in-law, The Rev. Bernard W. Carl, officiating.

Interment will follow at Chalk Hill Lutheran Cemetery.

Eleanor's wish was that memorials be made to Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 71 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., 15401, or the Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, 121 Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, Pa., 15401.
