Roy Hinton, 76, residing in South Bend, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017 in his home. He was born March 30, 1941 in Downsville, LA; a son of Lucian L. & Velda M. (Jones) Hinton, and has lived in South Bend since 1969.

On October 28, 1967 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia A. “Patty” Ream. Roy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patty, along with a daughter, Starla (Danny) Gasaway, of Evansville, IN; and by Dawn & Aaron Reitman, who has been just like a daughter and son-in-law to Roy and Patty. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jerry, Amrhest, and Crystal Clark, a sister, Carolyn (Vester) Dean of Downsville, LA; and his brother-in-law, Ronald G. Ream, Sr., of Argos, IN; two sisters-in-law, Twana and Joye Hinton and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Hinton was employed with Fabricated Steel, and later as a General Foreman with Alro Steel. He retired as a Surveyor with DLZ, and Lawson-Fisher Associates. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Roy never met a stranger. He had a great personality and sense of humor, and always saw the best in everyone. He loved a challenge in life and gathering information of all kinds. Throughout the years, he became known as the candyman, handing out butterscotch candies to everyone he would encounter. He also enjoyed searching for gravesite on the internet for people all around the world.

Memorial services honoring the life of Roy Hinton will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan St., South Bend, with Trevor Foley, Chaplain for the Center for Hospice officiating.
