SAD FATAL ACCIDENT
Little Clara Meade Killed by a Shifting Engine.

PITTSTON. Dec. 10 - A sad, fatal accident was that which happened to little Clara Meade, the 7-year old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas H. Meade, who reside near the Babylon colliery, Duryea. The little girl, together with her brother, were picking coal along the railway track in front of her home. Several cars were standing on the track, and the child, seeing some coal lying under the cars, went after it.
An engine shifting cars from the William A. Colliery bumped the one under which the child was, and as the little one made her efforts to get out she was caught by the cruel wheels. Her two legs were terribly crushed and she was hurriedly taken to her home nearby, where she died seven hours later.
The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon with interment in Pittston cemetery.
