Thomas Gilmore Draper, 86, of Bassett, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Martinsville, November 28, 1930 to Jessie S. Draper and Sally Lou Davis Draper. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was employed by Bassett Table Company, Owens Corning Window Company, American Furniture Company, Hopkins Lumber and Martinsville Speedway having retired from each one. He was a member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church where he was also a member of the choir.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Dodson Draper, two sisters, Helen J. Draper and Margaret Prillaman and one brother, Spottsyl Davis Draper.
Surviving are four daughters, Lisa E. Pearman of Ridgeway, Jane E. Wilson (Ricky) of Bassett, Judy K. Edmonds (Richard) of Collinsville and Linda F. Johnson (Randy) of Bassett; two sons, Thomas W. Draper of Apex, NC and Kevin M. Draper (Elizabeth) of Hillsborough, NC, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Additionally he is survived by a close family friend, Frankie Wilson.
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
Entombment will be in Roselawn Abby.
