ERNEST J. STREU
Ernst (sic) J. Streu, 60 of 1518 25th street, Two Rivers, president
of the Streu Construction company, died Friday afternoon at the Two Rivers
Municipal hospital. He had been in failing health for two years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Johns Lutheran church
in Two Rivers. Burial will be in Pioneers Rest cemetery.
Mr. Streu was born on a farm in West Kewaunee in 1887 and in 1905 moved to Two
Rivers to engage in sidewalk construction work. Later he joined a partnership
with Henry Hering, under the name of Hering and Streu. For a number of years
he operated independently in sidewalk construction in Two Rivers and in 1923
entered the paving field. His firm did most of the paving work in Two Rivers
and the company also embarked in highway construction work for the state.
One of his largest contracts was concreting most of highway 151, between Manitowoc
and Chilton. In his earlier life he was a member of a volunteer fire company, was
a former Rotarian and a trustee of the St. Johns church.
Mr. Streu married Anna Maigatter at Kewaunee in 1899. She died 13 years ago. In
1939 he married Mrs. Emma Reinhardt.
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Albert and William, members of
the Streu Construction company, and Richard Streu of Green Bay. He also leaves
three sisters, Mrs. Laura Schwantes of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Harriet Adams and
Mrs. Lydia Schwantes, both of Kewaunee and three brothers, Henry of Cameron Mo.,
William of Richardton, N.D., and Louis Streu of Kewaunee. There are also six
grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the Beduhn funeral home in Two Rivers after 7 o’clock
tonight until 11 a.m. Monday when it will be moved to the church.
