George B. Grauer, an Ossining resident, died Thursday at Bethel Nursing and Rehab Center in Croton. He was 86. George was the widower of Mary Harkewitz Grauer, who he married at St. Peter's Church in Yonkers on July 12, 1936. The couple celebrated 61 years of marriage before her death in 1997. He was born in Yonkers on March 29, 1915, the son of Jacob and Mae Grauer, and worked for 35 years as a Conductor for the NY Central System, and its successor railroads. His family said that he enjoyed his retirement playing golf, fishing, hiking and telling stories. He also did volunteer work for the Ossining Historical Society, the Mariandale Thrift Shop, and also the Ossining Public Library, doing exhibits and delivering books. Survived includes a son, George Jr., of Thompson, CT.; a daughter, Joan Cobe of Verplanck; 3 brothers, Bernard of Florida, Henry of Florida and Jack of Memphis, TN; also 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. He has predeceased by 3 sisters, Margaret Love, Helen Tynan, and Julia Grauer. The Funeral Mass is Monday at 10AM at st. Augustine's Church. Friends may call at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, (www.legacy.com) on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Burial is in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
