Edna Carrie Burger, 95, of Nescopeck went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 27, 2017, at the Gardens at Orangeville, surrounded by her family.

Born in Putneyville on Jan. 8, 1922, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Shadle) Raber.

She worked at Berwick Laundry, then after marriage, joined her husband in the family business, Burger’s Sawmill, in Briggsville. After retiring from the mill, she enjoyed watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She volunteered at the Nescopeck Volunteer Fire Company hoagie sales and at her church, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Nescopeck, making Easter eggs and homemade bread and cinnamon buns for the church bazaar.

Her favorite pastimes were hunting with her husband, gardening, canning, baking, crocheting, sequined calendars, cross-stitch and embroidery, Christmas beaded kits and felt appliqué kits. She also liked watching squirrels and her favorite soap opera, “Days of Our Lives.” Her greatest enjoyment was being a part of her grandchildren’s lives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Woodrow W. Burger; brothers: Sterling, Stanley, Harry, William Glenmore, Clifford, Charles, Glen Roy, and Oscar; sisters: Creola, Ida, Thelma, Merian Mearl, and Fern, and two siblings in infancy.

She is survived by four children: Mary Jane Burger, Eilene K. Lamoreaux and husband, Sanford, Woodrow L. Burger and wife, Terri, and Marlin W. Burger Sr.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sisters: Irene and Marcella.

A service to honor her life and faith will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Heller Funeral Home LLC, 633 E. Third St., Nescopeck, with the Rev. Jessica Kingsborough officiating. Interment will follow in Schloyersville Cemetery.
