Funeral services for Kathy Hodges Andrews, 60, were held at the Swainsboro Auditorium on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. Interment followed at the Swainsboro City Cemetery. She died March 21, 2015.

Mrs. Andrews was born in Emanuel County on April 10, 1954 to loving parents, the late Willie and Dora Lee Hodges. She was reared in a Christian home and at a very early age she accepted Christ into her life and became a member of McLeod Covenant Baptist Church in Swainsboro. She served her church faithfully in many capacities until her health recently failed. Her service and life as a Christian was evidenced in her unwavering faith in God. During her life, she touched many lives, especially youth and young adults. Kathy received her education in the public school system of Emanuel County, where she graduated from Swainsboro High School. She continued her education, completing programs of study in Business Education, obtaining a bachelor of science degree from Fort Valley State University and a Master of Science degree from Georgia Southern University. She also obtained the status of National Board Certified teacher. She was a master of the teaching profession and retired after teaching 33 years at Swainsboro High School.

In 1978, Kathy married the love of her life and her high school sweetheart, Isiah Andrews–a dedicated father, educator, and an all-time winning football coach. She was a dedicated parent who traveled, along with her husband, many, many miles across the state to support their children, who were scholars and athletes. One of her favorite sayings was,” Some things can wait, but I must look after my children and my husband.” She always emphasized the importance of standing for what is right, even if you had to stand alone. Her children strongly exemplify that character as well.

During her tenure as a teacher, she always had a special relationship with her students and her co-workers. Kathy set high expectations for her students and could motivate each individual student to achieve at the highest level. She also set high expectations for her peers. Many times, she was called upon to edit and proofread the work of others. Many students and adults sought her out to write recommendations and speeches and to speak at various engagements. She did not know how to say “no” to anyone who needed help. Everyone Kathy had contact with had a special loving bond with her. She was a dedicated, unselfish, gifted person who loved people. Kathy was always involved–never a dull moment in her life. During her high school years, she was involved in sports and was a cheerleader. While at Fort Valley State, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was a life member of the Future Business Leaders of America, member of Emanuel County Retired Teachers Association (secretary for three years), Georgia Retired Teachers Association, Georgia Association of Educators, National Education Association and Optimist Club, among many others. She was a FBLA advisor at Swainsboro High School for many years, serving on several committees and boards. She was serving as a committee member for Agriculture Conservation Services. Over her life, Kathy received many recognitions and awards. She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Willie Melvin Hodges.

Pallbearers were nephews. Honorary pallbearers were Emanuel County Retired Teachers Association members.
