Gary Lee Hoover, 71, of Anderson died April 8, 2012, at Saint John's Medical Center after an extended battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Anderson to Wilbur E. and Olive (Beason) Hoover.

He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

He worked production at GM for 30-plus years before retiring. He was a member of Southern Heights Christian Church, where he was a sound technician. He was an avid golfer and loved playing with his grandkids and walking his dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet (Fraser) Hoover of Anderson, whom he married August 7, 1965 in Junction City, Kan.; son, Evan (Karen) Hoover of Oak Grove, Mo.; daughter, Michele "Shelly" (Bruce) Cain of Anderson; two brothers, Danny (Melody) Hoover and Jimmy (Jeniffer) Hoover, all of Anderson; sister, Peggy Kirby of Fayetteville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Timothy, Nathan, Anna and Daniel Hoover, and Emily, Levi and Bryce Cain; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marilyn (Hoover) Bustos, and his brother Ronald Hoover.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Steve Lane officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery with military graveside rites presented by VFW Post 266 Honor Guard. The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
