Herschel E. Brown, 73, of Winchester, died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born August 28, 1933, in Winchester, the son of James Ralph and Audie Frances Smith Brown. He married Frances O'Donnell August 1, 1952, and she survives. He is also survived by three sons, Andy (wife, Janet) and Kevin (wife, Tina), both of Winchester, and Eric (wife, Kathy) of Chaska, Minnesota; two daughters, Kathie Brown of Macomb, and Lisa (husband, Jeff) Kugler of Adair; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (wife, Tina) Brown, Corey (wife, Jodi) Brown, Casey (wife, Jessi) Brown, MacKensie Brown, Jacob Kugler, Jesse Kugler, Sydney Brown, Aaron Brown and Elise Brown; three great-grandchildren, Shawn Brown, Isabella Brown and Kyli Brown; three brother, James R. (wife, Barbara) and John (wife, Wanda) both of Winchester, and Merle (wife, Julie) of Jacksonville; four sisters, Marie (husband, Roland) Todd, Virginia (husband, Robert) Wisdom, Wanda (husband, Basil) Hammon and Mary (husband, David) Tribble, all of Winchester; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Harold and Herbert (surviving wife, Mary of Winchester) and one infant sister, Fern. Mr. Brown was a member of the Winchester Masonic Lodge and Scott County Farm Bureau. He ran Brown Excavating Service and did backhoe work, mainly for family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers with his family, square dancing, wildlife, hunting quail, and country music. He was a steward of the land.
