Leo D. Beane, 96, of Endeavor, died on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Penn Highlands Brookville (Brookville Hospital), in Brookville.
He was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Endeavor, son of the late Ellis N. and Bertha I (Ishman) Beane.
On Sept. 4, 1953, he married Velma J. (Beck) Beane, who died Oct. 30, 2008.
Leo served with the Civilian Conservation Corps at their camp, in Duhring (CCC Camp).
He served his country faithfully during WWII being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps, 101st Airborne.
He retired after operating heavy equipment for 65 years as a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 66, of Pittsburgh.
He was previously employed by the Mayburg Chemical Plant and the West Hickory Tannery.
He was an active member of the Endeavor Senior Center. He also belonged to the Tidioute VFW, Kellettville Sportsman Club, the National Rifle Association, and the Tionesta Amvets Post No. 113.
Surviving are a son, Joseph A. Beane, and his wife, Patricia, of Punxsutawney; three daughters, Mary L. Schrecengost and her husband, Michael, of Marienville; Toni M. Reda and her husband, Gary, of Dayton, and Nancy I. Garrett and her husband, Chris, of Roanoke, Texas; seven grandchildren, Andrea Cussins and her husband, Dan, of Marienville, Holly Chipman and her husband, Alec, of St. John Virgin Islands, Melinda White and her husband, Michael, of Brookville, Seth Burkett, Alex Beane, and Miranda Beane, all of Punxsutawney, Mikayla Baka, of New Castle; four great-grandchildren, Emma and Luke Cussins, both of Marienville, Megan and Madison White, both of Brookville; and numerous in-laws in addition to many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Velma, Leo was also preceded in death by a daughter, Hope J. Baka, who died Nov. 22, 2001.
Friends will be received at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home, of Tionesta, on Saturday, from 3 to 7 p.m..
Friends will also be received on Sunday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by funeral services, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Randy L. Evans officiating.
Full military rights will be accorded by the VFW Post.
The Tionesta Amvets will gather for services, at 6:45 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Kiffer Hill Cemetery, in Tionesta.
