He attended Lincoln University (PA) where he lettered in baseball, until he was called to serve his country in 1953 during the Korean conflict.
After honorably serving in the United States Army, Robert Jr. continued his education and earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Winston-Salem Teacher’s College in 1958.
He married Delores Miller in 1956 and worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company until he retired in 1988.
Robert Jr. was a member of the American Legion Post #220 and served as Post Commander from 2006 - 2008.
He was a member of the Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and an active member of the Atkins Joint Class Reunion Committee for many years.
Robert also served as a member of the Winston-Salem Parks and Recreation Board.
While it was important for Robert Jr. to remain active in and serve his community, he found the greatest satisfaction as servant to his church family. He was a dedicated and hardworking member of Goler Memorial AME Zion Church, officially serving on the Usher Board and Lay Council, and loyally served his church in any capacity needed at any time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert, III; and his sister and brother-in-law, Joan Barbara Scales Pryor and Dr. Julius Pryor, Jr.
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery.
