OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Sep 28 1988 “Obituaries: Charles Anderson”
TULSA, Okla.-Charles “Corky” Anderson, 58, a former Bates Township resident, died Sept. 12 at his home here after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 9, 1930 in Bates Township, the youngest of nine children of Charles and Anna Hedin Anderson. He attended Bates School, after which he served in the U.S. Army in England and the Aleutian Islands. He married Dixie Brown of Hot Springs, Ark. and lived in Oklahoma for the last 35 years, where he was a member of the Elks, the Masons, the Shrine and the Petroleum Club of Tulsa. He had a partnership in the Pearly Gates Inc. oil well and saltwater disposal. Later, he invented and patented an above-the-ground tornado shelter and formed the Sara Dawn Corp., manufacturing the shelters. He was involved with the shelters at the time of his death.
He is survived by a son David of Hot Springs, Ark.; three sisters, Frances Schneider and Margaret Zurek, both of Bates Township, and Gladys Dall of Chicago, Ill.; and two brothers, Verne Andrews of Land O’ Lakes and Ted Anderson of California. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Spencer, David and Jack Anderson.
Private services were held. Cremation took place in Tulsa.
