Mrs. Elizabeth Budenbender

Elizabeth Fiegener, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Mueller)Fiegener was born in Westphalia, Germany, on August 2, 1846, and departed this life on Friday, December 1, 1939, age 93 years, 3 months and 29 days, at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Bert Arlint, east of Blue Rapids, Kansas, with whom she made her home for many years. At the age of 16 years, she came alone to America to join her parents in St. Louis, Mo., who came here several years previous. On October 19, 1865, she was united in marriage to Philip Budenbender at Flush KS, and they came to Springside community and settled on their farm, being one of the early pioneers and this farm was still in her possession at the time of her death. This union was blessed with eleven children, namely Mrs. Katherine Lauer of Westmoreland; Vincent Budenbender; Mrs. Mary Gunther and Philip Budenbender of the Springside community; Mrs. Lena Miller of Wheaton; Mrs. Rose Padarta of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Bettie Fischer, of Frankfort, Mrs. Hannah Fisher, Beattie and Mrs. Margaret Arlint of Blue Rapids and Ms. Anasteno Bowmaker and Mrs. Elizabeth Katopish who preceded her in death. Her husband preceded her in death 53 years ago, leaving her to care for her small children and enduring many hardships in keeping her family together.
She was of a very sunny and lovable disposition; a friend of all and a willing and helpful friend and neighbor. Her home and family were her whole life. Everything was sacrificed for their comfort; a very devoted and loving mother and grandmother; how empty the home and the hearts of her loved ones will be can only be understood by Our Heavenly Father.
Besides her children she is also survived by one brother, Herman Fiegener of Spring Creek community and 52 grandchildren and 77 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at St. Elizabeth Catholic church in Irving of which she was a devout member on December 4 at nine o'clock with a Requiem High Mass conducted by Father Mejak. Interment was in the Mount Calvary Catholic cemetery at Blaine.
Pallbearers were eight grandsons; Andrew Lauer, Joseph Budenbender, Philip Gunther, Cyril Budenbender, William Miller, Leo Fischer , Linus Fischer and Ira Arlint.
