Esther was born in Holbrook, Massachusetts and was the devoted daughter of the late Esther Medora (Tirrell) Ferbert and Paskell Battice Ferbert. She grew up as one of ten children and graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1952. She was predeceased by her loving husband Donald Winship Smith, Sr. with whom she had many happy years. Living in East Bridgewater and raising their four children: Donald Winship Smith, Jr. and his fiance Pam Schwemin-Reid of Pembroke, Douglas James (Higgins) Smith, Deborah Lynn (Smith) Farrell, Denise Frances (Smith) Whiting and her husband William (Bill) Whiting all of East Bridgewater. She was also the very proud grandmother to three grandchildren: Christine Marie Farrell, Michelle Alicia Farrell and Donald Winship Smith III. Esther is also survived by her sister Geraldine (Ferbert) White of Bridgewater and many, many nieces and nephews, good friends, and adopted families all over the country.
She was well-loved and respected, always had a funny story or a joke. She loved making her jewelry out of beads and always had something for you to take with you when you went to visit. She was keen on her dress, always matching her jewelry to her outfits, even the most exotic ones! She will be sadly missed by everyone who has ever met her or had the pleasure of knowing her.
Visiting hours will be at Chapman's Funeral Home in Bridgewater on Tuesday, July 5th from 4-8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be at Chapman's on Wednesday, July 6th at 10:00 am followed by interment at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton.
