"[From Our Sloansville Correspondent.] Elijah Quick died Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mark Smith, aged 86 years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Quick lived most of his life in the town of Charleston, midway between Oak Ridge and Burtonville. He was an honest, upright, industrious man, a shoemaker by trade, and a good one. He was a man of intelligence and fond of reading history. Some six or eight years ago their daughter, Mrs. Smith, persuaded the old people to come and live with her and her husband, that she might smooth and sooth their declining years, and give them every needed care. A few years ago his wife died. He was in his usual health until last fall, since which time he has been failing in mind and body. Funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday at 2 p. m., by Rev. E. Baker. Burial was in our Valley cemetery. He is survived by one son, Jay Quick of Burtonville, and one daughter, Mrs. Mark Smith of Sloansville." [The Cobleskill Index (Cobleskill, NY), Mar. 31, 1910, Page 1]
