William "Bill" F. Planck, 79, Jonesboro, received his eternal reward at 1:53 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. Born in Marion to the late William A. and Lena P. (Nantz) Planck on September 19, 1937, Bill was a lifelong resident of Grant County.

Following his graduation from Jefferson High School in 1956, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from 1957-1961. During that time, he met a young lady, Martha S. Patton, and they were married on August 28, 1958. After his military service, Bill and Martha began their family and raised their three children in Gas City. He worked as a pipefitter at Marion's GM plant for 30 years, with previous employment at Anaconda. He attended Eastview Wesleyan Church.

Bill was the kind of man who loved community. He was actively involved in Little League and coached the Tote-a-Burger Tigers for ten years. He also served ten years as a scout leader. He enjoyed fishing, solving puzzles, and watching sports, especially football. Fixing things or solving problems was just second nature to him, and he was relied upon quite often.

Above all of these things, though, the most important thing is that Bill was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family. His compassion will be forever remembered, and he will be missed by many.

Loved ones who survive include his wife of 58 years, Martha; children, William L. (Sheila) Planck, Peru, Kevin C. Planck, Marion, and Philip D. (Kaori) Planck, Bellevue, Nebraska; grandchildren, Tara (Shane) Church, Nicholas (Brandi) Stone, Mary (Evan) Akers, Zachary (Elizabeth) Planck, Artie Planck, Chris Planck, and Mihana Planck; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Wayne (Naomi) Planck; his beloved Aunt Kate Smelser; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Planck Gallant, and brother, Ray Planck.

Family and friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City.

Services to celebrate Bill's life are at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
