Paul H. “Muggs” Wilkins, 53, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at home surrounded by family. He was the devoted husband to the love of his life Beth (Povey) and proudest Dad ever to daughter Erin. Paul was born in West Chester and was the son of Dorothy C. and the late JC Wilkins.
He was employed as Administrative Support at the West Goshen Police Department. But to him it wasn’t really work. He got paid to hang out with and support the bravest group of heroes and he loved them all so very deeply.
Paul found his calling in 1980, at the age of 16, when he joined the Malvern Fire Company. For the past 37 years the firehouse was his second home, but the people of the firehouse were, and ALWAYS WILL BE, family. Paul held every fire officer position along the way and was the Chief for 6 years. Administratively he held the positions as Trustee and President. As Chief, Paul led by example. Anything he expected his crew to do – he did too. From drills to stand bys, even Sadye’s famous Blood Bourne Pathogen’s class, he was right there with them. As he would say, “A chief’s gear should be as dirty and stink just as much as his crew’s”.
In addition to his soulmate, Beth and amazing daughter, Erin, Paul is survived by: his brother John Dean (wife Dolores and daughter Jennifer), brother Gerald (son Gerald Jr. and daughter Samantha), his sisters-in-law – that were truly sisters - Jane Eagle (husband Bob, sons Matt and Charlie) and Joyce Rule (husband Steve, son Joe and daughters Abbey, Faith and Emily). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A full Fire Department funeral is scheduled for Saturday, March 18th, 2017. Mass and Funeral procession: 10AM Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Manor Ave., Downingtown, followed by Interment at Philadelphia Memorial Park, Phoenixville Pike, Malvern.
Friends may call on Friday, March 17th from 6 – 9 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Manor Ave., Downingtown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s name to the Malvern Fire Company. www.maugergivnish.com
