She graduated from Carlton High School and held jobs as a nanny and telephone operator in Duluth and Minneapolis. During WWII she contributed to the war effort in Seattle, working on Boeing’s bomber assembly line. Hazel married Floyd Reed on June 26, 1948, in Mahtowa. Always cheerful and pleasant, Hazel was proud of her family and enjoyed living in the country on the family's 40 acre woodland near Carlton. She also enjoyed baking — especially pies — and handwork such as crochet and crewel.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Floyd; her daughter Susie; three sisters, Lillian Erickson, Ruth Paulson, and Svea Skoglund; and her six brothers, Henry “Heavy,” Helge, Harold, Severt, Clarence “Kelly," and Melvin.
She is survived by her three sons: Steven (Donna), James (Nancy) and Joel (Debbie); her daughter Carolyn (Matthew) Barritt; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Emily, Erica (Scott) Stein, Bryan, Michael and Jenna; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial in Elim Lutheran Cemetery, Barnum.
