David Luke LeClaire was born on 18 October 1881, the 3rd of 5 children, to Antoine James LeClaire and Sarah Iten at their home, 813 Farnum, Davenport, Iowa.

He was schooled locally in the Davenport schools and by the time he was twenty was working at Rock Island Arsenal as a Harnessmaker. It is most likely thru his employment that he met Luella Bragdon, the woman he would marry in 1904. Luella's Father or Brother (or maybe both) were also employed at the Arsenal. The couple would have one child, Harry Joseph LeClaire born Aug 6 1904, but sadly the child would die before reaching a year of age.

Altho they were living with his parents, David made multiple trips south, once to Texas, for his health as he suffered from respitory issues. We're not sure if Luella accompanied him, or if the couple separated, but when David passes from Tuberculous in 1910, Luella is not mentioned. She never remarried and she passes in 1940.

David's services were held from Sacred Heart Cathedral and he was laid to rest at St Marguerite's Cemetery, which is today called Mt Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
